CS in Schools co-founder Hugh Williams was recognised twice last week for his contributions to CS in Schools and the tech industry broadly.

Last Friday, Williams was elected by his peers as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering. This year, 27 Fellows were admitted to the Fellowship that includes around 900 eminent Australians in the fields of technology and engineering. Others admitted this year include Professor Richard Eckard FTSE from the University of Melbourne, who developed the first greenhouse gas accounting tools for agriculture, and Kelly Bayer Rosmarin FTSE, who has transformed telecommunications company Optus.

To cap off the week, Williams was also listed as one of the 2021 Good Weekend “Australians Who Mattered” for helping to take coding into schools through CS in Schools. Others who made the list included basketballer Patty Mills, Australian of the Year Grace Tame, and actor Sarah Snook.

“It’s satisfying for CS in Schools to be recognised as making a difference to Australia” said Williams. “What we need to do now is to keep doubling our impact every year so that every Australian student has the chance to learn to code at school within a few years” he added.
